Privacy Notice
Last updated 2 November 2026
Your manuscript is your work. This notice explains what personal data BookHook Crafter collects, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have.
1. Who we are
BookHook Crafter is run by Ann-Elizabeth Wittke, trading as BookHook Crafter, based in Germany. We are the data controller for the personal data described here, which means we decide how and why it’s used. Contact us at annelizabethbriars@gmail.com.
2. What we collect and why
- Account details (email address, password stored only in encrypted form): to create and secure your account and contact you about it. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
- Your writing and book details (manuscripts, chapters, titles, pen names, tropes, character names) and the hooks, captions and plans you create: to provide BookHook Crafter and generate your hooks. Legal basis: contract. Your manuscripts are never shared with other users or used for anything other than your own hooks.
- Text you type into Remix (details of other posts you want to remix): to generate your remixes. Legal basis: contract.
- Plan and purchase records (your plan, renewal dates, launch packs and a customer reference from Paddle): to give you the right allowance and manage billing. We don’t see or store your full card details. Legal basis: contract and legal obligation (tax and accounting records).
- Usage information (how many hook searches, captions and rewrites you’ve used): to apply plan allowances and prevent abuse. Legal basis: contract and our legitimate interest in running a fair service.
- Technical data (IP address, browser and device type, error logs): to keep BookHook Crafter secure, prevent fraud and fix problems. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a secure, working service.
- Support messages: to answer your questions. Legal basis: contract and legitimate interest.
We don’t sell your personal data, and we don’t use it for advertising.
3. Who we share it with
- Service providers who process data for us under contract: app hosting and database (Lovable and its cloud infrastructure providers), and AI model providers (such as Anthropic) that receive the chapter text needed to generate your hooks. They may only use your data to provide their service to us.
- Paddle (Paddle.com Market Ltd), our Merchant of Record, for the sale of plans and launch packs, subscription management, payments, tax compliance and invoicing. Paddle collects your payment details directly and handles them under its own privacy notice.
- Professional advisers such as lawyers and accountants, where needed.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
4. International transfers
Some of our providers are located outside the EU/EEA, for example in the United States. When your data is transferred there, we rely on safeguards such as an EU adequacy decision (including the EU–US Data Privacy Framework) or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your account, books and hooks for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account yourself on the Account page once any paid plan has ended. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your data within 30 days, except where we must keep records longer by law (for example, tax records for up to 10 years under German law). Technical logs are kept for a short time, usually no more than 90 days.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data erased;
- restrict how we use your data;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- object to processing based on our legitimate interests;
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent;
- complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example the one in the EU country where you live or in Germany.
To use any of these rights, email annelizabethbriars@gmail.com. We’ll reply within one month.
7. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, encrypted password storage, and access controls so each author can only see their own books and hooks.
8. Cookies and local storage
BookHook Crafter only uses essential browser storage to keep you signed in and remember your settings. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies. Paddle’s checkout may set its own essential cookies to process your payment securely. You can clear this storage in your browser settings, but you’ll be signed out.
9. Changes
We may update this notice. If the changes are significant, we’ll let you know in the app or by email.
